Young People


Horrabridge is a lively and thriving village, which has things to do for all age groups. The following are just a few examples of the wide range of clubs, groups, organisations, societies that exist within the village.

Horrabridge Rangers
,
the local football team, play their home matches at Fillace Park. Pictured are the under 15 team, but there are also seven or eight other teams spanning all ages. (contact Rob Mitchelmore 01822 853221)

Explorer Scouts (14 - 18 yrs) meet between 19:30 - 21:30 on Wednesdays. (contact Allan Yeo 01822 853831)
Sea Scouts
(10 - 14 yrs) meet between 18:00 - 20:00 on Fridays. (contact June Jeffrey 07867 791652)
Cub Scouts (8 - 10 yrs) meet between 18:00 - 20:00 on Mondays. (contact Frances Yeo 01822 853831)
Beaver Scouts (6 - 8 yrs) meet between 16:30 - 17:45) on Mondays. (contact Nicci Conybeare 01822 853404)

Activities in all three groups are designed to encourage self-confidence, team building and life skills, are adventurous and challenging. Programmes are fun and designed to encourage social interaction, self-confidence, creative and practical skills, an awareness of and desire to explore the world around them.

The Cavaliers are a group established to support village causes, mainly through meeting requests for funding from other Village organisations.  Various fund-raising events are held in the course of each year. With an emphasis on the social, they meet on a monthly basis, usually the last Friday of each month. (contact Bill Mullery 01822 854819)

Both groups seek to meet the needs of young people. In the past the club has run awareness workshops on anti-bullying, drugs and alcohol abuse; provided opportunities to make arts and crafts; played various team games; had DVD nights; engaged in face painting and costume making among many other activities too numerous to mention.


National Women's Register (NWR) meet on average fortnightly in people's houses. There are 25 members. Among the items  discussed are: terrorism; what our mothers did in the war; which three books we would take to a desert island; reiki, reflexology and healing; and the food we eat. Additionally, the group also go for walks, visit the theatre and the cinema as well as, on occasions, other countries. (contact Caroline Hempenstall 01852 852385)

Women's Institute
meets on the third Wednesday of the month (contact Pat Kerslake 01822 852424)

Horrabridge Twinning Association
was formed in 1974, when the village 'twinned' with Tilly Sur Seulles, a French village between
Caen and Bayeux in Normandy. Visits to Tilly Sur Seulles take place alternate years. The association hold several social events to assist with funds, including hosting a village quiz.(contact Janice Willie 01822 854788)

Horrabridge Badminton Club plays on Wednesday evenings in Community Hall. Junior members play between 17:15 - 19:45, and the Seniors between 19:45 - 22:00. (contact Mike King 01822 852340)
